This has been the most-discussed topic since we revealed Diablo IV. Let’s start with two key principles that guide us as the Diablo IV development team.įirst, we agree that adding depth and customization to your character through itemization is incredibly valuable and important to the game. We’re focusing specifically on itemization in this blog because it’s a complex and nuanced topic. Itemization is a huge core part of any Action RPG. I recommend checking that out if you haven’t already. If D4 was literally a 100% ripoff of Lost Ark, with an actual story, acting, and the more mature theme, but with no p2w garbage like LA has, and without the need to no life 6 characters doing dailies just to feed your main, but with Lost Ark caliber class and ability design and customization it might legitimately have been the best game ever made.In Part I, we addressed many of the open questions from the community about the Diablo IV game designs we revealed at BlizzCon. LA has some really cool major battles/fights that feel dynamic, epic, featuring tons of npcs (both with and against you) while doing some really cool camera tricks (that lvl like 20 or so castle assault battle, or the boss fight that takes place in a circular tower that you constantly are ascending mid fight… D4 is EXTREMELY static by comparison. LA has some small but nice things like when descending a ladder, you can choose to let go and drop the remaining distance vs locking the player on rails when coming across a terrain interaction. LA has massively more customization on your character’s appearance (though D4 does at least let you choose gender on all classes, which is nice) LA combat is way more engaging since you actually have a number of buttons to press and can combo abilities together. Lost Ark class design is hands down superior Frankly I was HOPING they’d have ripped off Lost Ark more when making this
